RAgged dick
In the reading, Ragged Dick, the idea is that everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed with hard work. He talks about how he succeeded but his story seems like his success is 100% luck. On a contrary, the documentary that we watched in class does not really show people who have succeeded in life, but Moore shows people talking about how it is possible for everyone to succeed in life if they put in efforts and hard work. I think it is possible for people to have chance to succeed if they work hard, but I don't think everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed. Some people are just lucky and some people aren't. And obviously, lucky people get to succeed and those who are unlucky get nowhere. I think it is very hypocritical of people who are successful to say that everyone has a chance to succeed, even if they are trying to give everyone hope. It is easier for people who are successful to say that everyone has an equal opportunity because they are not in the position of people who work hard in hopes of succeeding one day. Or even for the people who work hard to just survive, not even dream to succeed. For example, the bunny lady in the documentary sells meats or pets so she could get money to buy food and just survive.
