DDD

I would say that Cora Tucker is the exact opposite from Willy Loman. When Willy cares so much about what other people think about him, Cora does not care what other people think about her. She tried to help black communities, but people did not care. Therefore, she changed her attitude. This is very different from Willy. Willy tried so many ways to do the right things to succeed, and after failing so many times, he did not change his method. He kept on failing. He focused too much on being well-liked, which was the path for success to him. Tucker ends up being successful by changing her method to reach to the top, when Willy fails horribly and ends up killing himself by not being able to adapt to his changing environment.

___

To Willy it takes a person to be "well-liked" to succeed. I think he believes that each person create their opportunity by improving yourself to be well-liked. By "well-liked", Willy means that the person is liked well and since the person can definitely take an advantage of being liked, the person will be successful.

Emerson

In his essay, Emerson suggests that it takes he or she to understand him or herself to be successful. Emerson was one of the leading transcendentalists; therefore he believed that in order to understand God and yourself was to understand nature since he believed that nature was directly connected to God also to oneself. Emerson, like many other transcendentalists do, believed that government does not affect individuals.
I do not agree with Emerson with how he thinks that government does not affect individuals or shouldn't have any effects on individuals. Because in order for individuals to live peacefully in this society requires some rules which government provides.
It is not easy for individuals to make a firm connection between God, nature, and individuals. And even if people make the connection, it is hard to be completely independent from the government.

speech 2

Derek's speech about his organization, dress for success, was very interesting to me. The organization focus on women who do not have many skills to success and also women who are not confident. Providing services and programs that could help women attain the skills that they need to success is great, however that part was not the part where it got me interested. It was the part where the organization provide clothes and other things to make women look beautiful and give them self-confidence. For some reason, I really enjoy seeing confident people and love the process of helping people look better and feel better about themselves.
When he was talking about the fundraiser and how there was a fashion show, I thought it was really clever to make the 'normal' and successful women as models.

SPeech day 1

Kendal’s presentation about the Juilan center was very interesting. Part of the reasons why I was so interesting was becuase it delt with something not that many organizations are supporting in the nation. It sure is a big problem in this country, however not too many people are aware of it being a big problem. And that is because not many women choose to talk about such things. Kendal's speech made me aware of the domestic violence that was going on around the city and that there was a place that is provided to women who have experienced domestic violence. By starting out the speech with statistics, she got my attention. It was shocking to know how many women go through these things every year. I thought it was a great organization that should be more well known.

RAgged dick

In the reading, Ragged Dick, the idea is that everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed with hard work. He talks about how he succeeded but his story seems like his success is 100% luck. On a contrary, the documentary that we watched in class does not really show people who have succeeded in life, but Moore shows people talking about how it is possible for everyone to succeed in life if they put in efforts and hard work. I think it is possible for people to have chance to succeed if they work hard, but I don't think everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed. Some people are just lucky and some people aren't. And obviously, lucky people get to succeed and those who are unlucky get nowhere. I think it is very hypocritical of people who are successful to say that everyone has a chance to succeed, even if they are trying to give everyone hope. It is easier for people who are successful to say that everyone has an equal opportunity because they are not in the position of people who work hard in hopes of succeeding one day. Or even for the people who work hard to just survive, not even dream to succeed. For example, the bunny lady in the documentary sells meats or pets so she could get money to buy food and just survive.

speech SUGHhh

I think I would like to write about scholarships that are provided for the students who are in need. Since this program helps the students who are financially unable to afford paying for their education to be aided with scholarship money, the students can use the help to make themselves self-sufficient. I will have to do some more research about how the students who have recieved help turned out, but I believe it is a great cause. Or if this does not work out, then I think I will be writing about Ambassador for children.
